Lamar Murchison
My desire for teaching was fueled by my teachers in high school. My passion for history comes from experiences while serving my country. Immediately after graduating high school I enlisted in the Army National Guard. After completing the required training I was deployed to Afghanistan. The year long deployment exposed me to a culture that is completely different from that of the United States. I learned to appreciate the little things and what I have. During this time I chose to pursue a degree in a History Education. Upon returning home I finished my associates degree at Bismarck State College and immediately transferred to North Dakota State University. Soon after transferring I was informed that I would be deploying again. Knowing that being close to home during the preparation time was important to me because of the emotional support I would receive. I wanted to continue my education during the preparation time so I transferred to University of Mary. After another one year deployment I jumped right back into my schooling. Beyond school I enjoy working at the Heritage Center as an interpreter and volunteering with the Bismarck Rural Fire Department. I am also in the process of obtaining my private pilots license. I thoroughly enjoy flying and try to get in the air as often as I can. I hope to someday teach in a small school because I like knowing all the students and I like the school spirit that small schools have.
